If you use AOL or Yahoo or Google or Microsoft for your free email account(s), then you are effectively working in "The Cloud" with email. You have access to your email from any computer with a link to the Internet. Your email is physically stored on their computers and not yours.
You are also dependent on these vendors to provide adequate safekeeping of your email and your email account. Nevertheless, it has been reported that email account breaches occur due to some skillful hackers who manage to gain entry into one of these vendors' computers.
